Running a junk removal business can be rewarding—you help people reclaim their spaces, handle heavy lifting, and haul away the clutter that’s been sitting for years. But with every job comes a level of risk. From accidentally damaging a customer’s property to someone tripping over equipment, one mistake could cost you thousands without the right coverage in place.
That’s where general liability insurance comes in. What Is General Liability Insurance? General liability insurance is designed to protect your business from the most common risks you face on the job. It helps cover:
For a junk removal company, this type of policy acts as your first line of defense. Why It Matters for Junk Removal Businesses When you’re hauling heavy furniture, debris, or appliances, accidents can happen quickly. Picture this:
Without general liability insurance, you’d be paying those expenses out of your own pocket—not only repair costs, but also potential medical bills or legal settlements. Real-World ExampleA junk removal crew in Texas accidentally broke a high-end glass table while moving it out of a home. The table cost $2,500 to replace. Because the company had general liability insurance, their policy covered the replacement cost and legal fees when the customer demanded compensation. Without insurance, this could have turned into a much larger financial hit. How Much Coverage Do You Need? While every business is different, most junk removal companies in Texas carry at least $1 million in coverage per occurrence. This ensures you have enough protection to cover common claims without risking your business assets. The Bottom Line Accidents are part of the job in junk removal but financial disaster doesn’t have to be. General liability insurance gives you peace of mind, allowing you to focus on growing your business while staying protected from unexpected costs. At Insure HTX, we work with junk removal companies all over Texas to make sure they’re fully covered—without overpaying for policies they don’t need.

Great focus on a high risk service industry. Junk removal work involves property access, heavy lifting, and potential damage, making liability coverage a smart layer of protection. What coverage area should junk removal businesses pay closest attention to when comparing policies?

Biggest thing they need to zero in on is how the policy handles property damage and care/custody/control. You’re constantly on someone else’s property, moving their stuff, if something gets scratched, dropped, or damaged, that’s where claims happen. Also, need to look at workers comp, and the auto. Cheap can often cost you long term.
